Deptford Folk Night 24th October – Mark Sampson plus floor spots!

Hi all,

This month Deptford Folk is taking place a week earlier than normal on the 24th October as a result of a hilarious scheduling mix-up, so come on down if you can!

Our featured act this month will be Mark Sampson, a southeast London stalwart who sings songs of the city, its history, its pubs and folklore.

There will also be plenty of slots available for anyone who wants to sing a song, play a tune, do a dance or read a poem – all acoustic and unamplified in true folk club style, of course!

Although entry is free, we have a suggested donation of £5 if you like what you hear.

Things will kick off from around 7:30, but would recommend turning up from around 7 if you want to secure a floor spot.

Our last Deptford Folk Night before the summer break is coming on 25th July!

Our featured act this month will be Jacken Elswyth – a London-based folk musician, banjo player, and instrument builder, her music is focused on exploring traditional tunes, developing extrapolations on folk styles and techniques, and investigating drone, ambience, and improvisation within and beyond folk music.

There will also be plenty of slots available for anyone who wants to sing a song, play a tune, do a dance or read a poem – all acoustic and unamplified in true folk club style, of course!

We’re still folking along come this 27th June!

Our featured act this month will be Rhiannon Carr – a writer, actor and musician from southeast London, Rhiannon is heavily influenced by country and folk, but with a punk rock approach to playing guitar, her music has been described as “exploring what it means to be a solitary woman in the vast no-man’s-land between youth and old age.”

There will also be plenty of slots available for anyone who wants to sing a song, play a tune, do a dance or read a poem – all acoustic and unamplified in true folk club style, of course!

Further folking up will be happening on 25th April!

We have two very familial featured acts for April – our first act will be the father and child duo of Martin and Max Howard who will be performing folk with a punk edge, an eclectic mix of original songs and classics.

Our second act will be the brother duo of Alex and Tommy MacDonald who will be bringing a baffling mix of Celtic folk, labour songs, blues and New Orleans jazz to the table.

1st February featuring Lunch Special plus floor spots

Hi all,

Happy New Year, all – our next event is taking place at a slightly different date from usual as we will be putting it on as part of Independent Venue Week, the UK’s annual 7-day celebration of independent music and arts venues, as well as the people that own, run and work in them.

Our featured act for the night will be London country/bluegrass stalwarts Lunch Special, a trio of musicians who perform, in their own words, a tubthumping mix of bluegrass, country, and gospel, combining mind-blowing vocals, close-knit harmonies, and rambunctious energy.

As always, there will also be plenty of slots available for anyone who wants to sing a song, play a tune, or read a poem – all acoustic and unamplified in true folk club style, of course!
