We are currently waiting to hear on future dates at the Selkirk and will let you know as soon as we have things confirmed. So, watch this space! Hailing from Liverpool, but with Lancashire roots, this majestic singer and virtuoso multi-instrumentalist plays his own original compositions which appear on his Ottersgear albums as well as a combination of English, Irish, Celtic, Bluegrass and Americana tunes.
His album ‘The Quest for Rest is an English folk record; its traditional elements are stirring, heart-warmingly melodious, and never dull for a second, due largely to Kenney’s musicianship. It’s grounding in the Trough of Bowland, North Lancashire, renders it timeless, a quality that is shared by Kenney’s voice. Dotted throughout the record are subtle musical nods, reference points that hint at a wider sense of knowing, a worldliness compressed; it makes for something that sounds refreshingly original and yet familiar in the way that all great folk music does.’ Bearded Magazine
He will be accompanied by Damon Kilcawley of The Kilcawley Family (who played the first Tooting Folk!). He is a fantastic flat picker, harmonica player and interpreter of folk songs in his own right

It will be a different TOOTING FOLK this month as we make a temporary move to Unwined in Tooting Market (due to a clash with some rugby world cup shenanigans). As it is a bit of an experiment, we have rebooked Hickory Signals for January instead.
There will be lots of floor spots, plus some songs from Caz Forbes & Ste Moncrieff and The Bara Bara Band. Come along sing a song!

Long Lankin are four female instrumentalists and singers, whose intricate and thoughtful arrangements of songs and tunes from the English, Scottish, Scandinavian and American folk tradition are as skilfully and beautifully executed as their original material. Singing in close harmony, Long Lankin hail from England, Shetland, the North-East and Ireland.

Sussex-based Porchlight Smoker are armed with a range of instruments, including banjo, guitar, lapsteel, stand-up bass and mandolin, even clarinet, which accompany the band’s trademark four-part vocal harmonies. Their live gigs show off the band’s multi-national song-writing talents, with Scott Smith, from Wichita, Kansas, bringing his extensive knowledge of the American folk tradition, Scotsman Steve Bell’s Celtic folk influence, and London born Fred Gregory’s well, very English identity all combining to form the band’s unique and exciting sound.

Cath and Phil bring together folk music from both sides of the Atlantic using guitar, banjo, voice and fiddle. Described as having a wonderful combination of earthiness and grit, the duo performs raw yet beautifully heartfelt songs with immaculate musicianship.

GentleFolk formed in 2014 from singers & players who met at The Goose Is Out folk singarounds held at the Old Nun’s Head. They play pastoral folk songs about the woodland & tell tales of London too.
They are made up of singer & guitarist Nigel Of Bermondsey, Elizabeth Forrester on Shruti & voice,
Sarah Lloyd on fiddle & voice Ian Kennedy on cello, giant tin whistle, flute, bodhran & voice. Gentlefolk have played in a variety of woodland settings, several cemeteries, at a reservoir, the bar at Cecil Sharp House, the Golden Hinde & in pubs. They are planning to record a collection of songs & tales about the woodlands of the South of England in late March.
They have been described by the comedian Stewart Lee as “Good” & by the folk band Stick In The Wheel as “a psychedelic folk Steely Dan”

Known as the Newcastle Fiddler, Tom’s live performances combine a rollercoaster of musical delights from fast, rhythmic dance tunes , through beautiful slow airs, with great singing. Renowned for his musical accompaniments, Tom has played on literally hundreds of albums. The list includes: Barbara Dixon, Richard Thompson, Allan Taylor and Lindisfarne. Whilst he has shared stages throughout the world with Stephan Grappelli, Sean McGuire, Mark O’Connor, Paul Brady and The Chieftains, Tom has never forgotten his roots and is as happy in the intimate atmosphere of a small folk club as he is at the largest festivals.
Tom won Musician of The Year in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2009.
