Made up of Hylda Sims, Simon Prager and Doc Stenson, they play an eclectic mix of Skiffle, Blues, Folk, and original songs with an occasional excursion into Rock n Roll, Country and Music Hall, and are named after the City Ramblers, a famous late fifties group of which Hylda was a member. They were regulars on BBC Radio, TV’s 6.5 Special and residents at Soho’s Skiffle Cellar in Greek Street.
The guest act for October is Tim Jones & the Dark Lanterns. Influenced by the traditional singers and folk music of the UK, the band use this sound to help Tim Jones’ songs come to life. Whether a capella, shape-shifting fairy tales, or a boozy singalong, a sense of the stories and melodies that underpin folk music runs through all the songs.

There will also be floor spots, so come along sing a song/do a dance/read a story/play a tune!

Performing a mixture of American and British traditional songs as well as his own songs, Hertfordshire-born folk singer and banjo player Jimmy Grayburn will be accompanied by guitarist and fiddle player Tom Blackburn. Weaving dark folk tales and upbeat rootsy stomps, together as “The Lion’s Share” they are garnering quite a reputation throughout London.

We are proud to have the “Springsteen of the Sea Shanty” as our guest for April.
Often accompanying himself with button accordion or ukulele, former submariner Tom sings nautical songs of loneliness and the lure of the sea as well as traditional shanties and classic nautical poetry, set to his own, and others’ melodies.
Born in Northern Ireland, Tom’s Celtic heritage is obvious in his clear, strong voice, evoking quiet sorrow for a fisherman lost to the sea just as honestly as it powers out a shanty “to be heard above the gales”.
